Anik a grandi dans la banlieue de Montréal, là où tout semble déjà décidé d’avance. Même maisons, même parcours, même rêves bien rangés. Très tôt, elle sent que ce scénario là n’est pas pour elle.
Petite tomboy, casse-cou assumée, Anik fonce, grimpe, teste, tombe, recommence. Peu conventionnelle, impossible à formater, elle suit son instinct plutôt que les règles. Dès l’adolescence, son côté rebelle s’affirme : elle remet en question la société, rejette le capitalisme, explore la culture hippie et alternative. Cette énergie, cette audace, la rend unique et devient sa signature pour toute la vie.
Prendre la route, apprendre en chemin
À 17 ans, Anik fait ce que peu osent faire : elle part. En auto-stop, elle suit Louis (son meilleur ami et amour de toujours). Direction Ouest, l’inconnu. Ce voyage marque le début d’une vie bohème, faite de débrouillardise, de petits boulots, de nuits improvisées et de grandes révélations.
À Jasper, en Alberta, au cœur de la forêt, avec presque rien, elle découvre une vérité simple : le bonheur tient souvent à très peu. Quand l’hiver arrive, avec deux autres amis, ils reprennent la route vers l’Amérique centrale, à bord de leur hippie bus.
Au Guatemala, Anik pose les bases de son premier projet entrepreneurial. Avec son amie Caro, elles louent une machine à coudre et fabriquent des hauts hippies qu’elles vendent aux touristes. Sur la route du Mexique, elle rencontre des artistes et créateurs qui nourrissent sa vision et renforcent sa soif d’indépendance. Pour elle, être libre, c’est aussi assumer ses choix financièrement, sans jamais trahir sa vision.
Nomade : sur la route et dans le sang
L’art coule dans ses veines : sa mère est artiste, sa grand-mère couturière, et très tôt, elle apprend les bases du métier. Mais pour Anik, créer ne suffit pas : chaque pièce doit porter un message, une intention, presque une revendication.
De retour en Colombie-Britannique, elle fonde Nomads Hemp Wear, une marque éthique et artisanale. Pionnière, elle travaille le chanvre et d’autres fibres naturelles, mêlant artisanat, teinture, broderie et design réfléchi. À l’époque, le chanvre est rigide, froissé, ingrat : aller vert, oui ; ressembler à un sac de patates, non merci. Anik voit pourtant son potentiel et s’entoure de partenaires prêts à le faire évoluer.
Avec Louis, ils écument festivals et marchés, vivant dans leur van, elle, cousant dans les salons d’amis et lui teignant dans leurs baignoires. Le succès de Nomads est symbiotique une complémentarité à toute épreuve qui fera le succès de la marque. Petit à petit, les boutiques veulent distribuer leurs pièces. La demande grandit, et le duo doit évoluer : passer à une manufacture respectueuse de leurs valeurs sans jamais perdre l’âme de la marque.
L’impact et l’éthique
Pour Anik, choisir des matériaux naturels est un engagement. Le polyester, les produits chimiques qui polluent l’océan et altèrent la santé, tout cela n’a pas sa place sur la peau. Elle veut que ses clients se sentent bien dans leurs vêtements, tout comme elle vit selon ses valeurs : manger bio, respecter la planète, créer avec conscience.
L’adrénaline qui nourrit la créativité
Anik n’a jamais changé : toujours cette casse-cou, cette badass nourrie par l’adrénaline. Fat bike, mountain biking, équitation, nature, vitesse : toutes ces expériences l’inspirent et rechargent sa créativité. Le mouvement et l’action deviennent matière à création, et cette énergie se retrouve dans chaque vêtement : fonctionnels, résistants, pensés pour bouger, explorer et durer.
Une marque et une leçon de vie
En avançant, Anik a compris une vérité simple : ta propre essence ne peut ni être copiée ni reproduite. “C’est en restant fidèle à ton cœur, à ce qui te rend unique, que l’on se démarque et que l’on va le plus loin”. Ce qui fait la force de Nomads, c’est précisément cette authenticité. Nomads, ce sont donc des vêtements, mais surtout une philosophie : croire en soi, créer avec cœur, rester fidèle à ses valeurs et refuser de se laisser formater : ni par les normes, ni par le marché.

Nomads Hemp Wear: Where Anik’s Freedom Meets Creativity
Anik grew up in the suburbs of Montreal, where everything seems decided in advance. Same houses, same paths, neatly ordered dreams. Very early on, she knew that this script was not meant for her.
A tomboy at heart and a self-proclaimed daredevil, Anik charges ahead, climbs, experiments, falls, and starts again. Unconventional and impossible to mold, she follows her instincts rather than the rules. From her teenage years on, her rebellious side emerges: she questions society, rejects capitalism, and explores hippie and alternative cultures. This energy, this boldness, makes her unique and becomes her lifelong signature.
Hitting the road, learning along the way

At 17, Anik does what few dare to do: she leaves. Hitchhiking, she follows Louis (her best friend and lifelong love). Heading west, toward the unknown. This journey marks the beginning of a bohemian life shaped by resourcefulness, odd jobs, improvised nights, and major revelations.
In Jasper, Alberta, deep in the forest, with almost nothing, she discovers a simple truth: happiness often requires very little. When winter arrives, she and two friends hit the road again, heading toward Central America in their hippie bus.
In Guatemala, Anik lays the foundations of her first entrepreneurial project. With her friend Caro, they rent a sewing machine and make hippie tops that they sell to tourists. On the road through Mexico, she meets artists and creators who fuel her vision and strengthen her thirst for independence. For Anik, freedom also means taking financial responsibility for her choices — without ever betraying her vision.
Nomad: on the road and in her blood
Art runs through her veins: her mother is an artist, her grandmother a seamstress, and from a young age she learns the basics of the craft. But for Anik, creating is not enough—each piece must carry a message, an intention, almost a statement.
Back in British Columbia, she founded Nomads Hemp Wear, an ethical, artisanal brand. A pioneer, she works with hemp and other natural fibers, blending craftsmanship, dyeing, embroidery, and thoughtful design. At the time, hemp was stiff, wrinkled, and unforgiving: going green, yes—looking like a potato sack, no thank you. Yet Anik saw its potential and surrounded herself with partners willing to help it evolve.
With Louis, they traveled from festival to festival and market to market, living in their van—she sewing in friends’ living rooms, he dyeing fabrics in bathtubs. Nomads’ success is symbiotic: an unbreakable complementarity that becomes the brand’s strength. Gradually, boutiques begin to carry their pieces. Demand grows, and the duo must evolve—moving to manufacturing that respects their values without ever losing the soul of the brand.
Impact and ethics
For Anik, choosing natural materials is a commitment. Polyester, chemical products that pollute the ocean and harm health—none of that belongs on the skin. She wants her customers to feel good in their clothes, just as she lives by her values: eating organic, respecting the planet, and creating with intention.
Adrenaline as fuel for creativity
Anik has never changed—still the daredevil, the badass fueled by adrenaline. Fat biking, mountain biking, horseback riding, nature, speed: all of these experiences inspire her and recharge her creativity. Movement and action become raw material for creation, and that energy is reflected in every garment—functional, durable, designed to move, explore, and last.
